In 2015, the Global South imported over $1 trillion ($1,019,014,142,408.00) worth of goods and services from the Global North and exported only over $724 billion ($724,110,954,226.00) leading to a trade deficit of above $294 billion (-$294,903,188,182.00) (World Bank, 2018). by India, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, and the Philippines' large trade deficits. To illustrate, India has a large economy and a large population so one might expect a larger trade deficit purely because of the country's scale. The countries with the largest trade deficits were Namibia, East Timor, Djibouti, Guyana, and El Salvador. Namibia fared the worst globally and Djibouti had the third greatest trade deficit per capita.
